Prayer And Work
Listen: MP3
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
It is a great idea to have specific times during the day to sit down, away from everything that might distract you, and pray. But scripture tells us to “pray without ceasing”. We can talk to God throughout the day, while driving, at work, while falling asleep. We don’t need to be on our knees with our eyes closed. As long as our hearts are bowed before God we can talk to Him anywhere, in any work we do.
As we should, “For we are God’s fellow workers;” 1 Corinthians 3:9 We work with God to do His work, so we need to be talking to Him constantly to make sure the work we are doing is in His will.
When we walk with God in prayer He give us work to do because by walking with Him in prayer we will be ready to do the work that God gives us. When we are doing God’s work it will grow beyond anything we could accomplish ourselves, as long as we pray. Prayer and work are a package deal.
Our real power in the work we do comes from God alone. Matthew 17:20 tells us that if we have faith in Him the size mustard seed, He will give us whatever we need to accomplish His tasks.
